Mother Trees Conspired

(2026) acrylic on canvas, 30 × 40 in.

Mother Trees Conspired reflects on artist Beatriz Williams’ experience as a visiting fellow at Skidmore College and her discovery of a place of rest, nourishment, and belonging. Inspired by the underground networks through which older trees share resources with younger saplings, the work positions the artist as a recipient of collective care and guidance from unseen sources. Rooted in Williams’ reverence for nature, the piece imagines the trees of her homeland of Puerto Rico and the trees of Saratoga Springs as part of a shared living network, quietly orchestrating the conditions that brought her to this residency. Mother Trees Conspired presents nature as a vessel for ancestral wisdom, inviting viewers to contemplate the deep bonds between humans and the living earth while remaining open to the intuitive forces that guide us toward where we are meant to be.
