Nuestra Tierra
(2025) acrylic on wood panel, 12×12 in.
This painting is part of a series highlighting the casitas of Puerto Rico, symbols that immediately transport the views to the island. Each facade carries a story: who lives here, what memories fill these walls? Even without knowing, there’s a familiarity that resonates deeply with anyone who has lived on or has roots in the island. Nestled seamlessly into the mountainside, these casitas embody resilience, community, and strength. The sign painted on the garage door, “Our land is not for sale,” echoes a collective assertion, an act of resistance against displacement and a declaration that the land, like the people, endures.
