Origins of a Daffodil /

Orígenes de un Narciso

(2026) acrylic on wood panel, 12 × 12 in.

Origins of a Daffodil / Orígenes del Narciso is a self-portrait in which the artist’s image is superimposed onto the shoreline of a Puerto Rican beach at sunset. Her body rests gently against the earth while, in her hands, she cradles a sprouting daffodil. Referencing the myth of Narcissus, the work reflects the artist’s awareness of the implications of self-portraiture and the ways it may be interpreted as an act of vanity. In the original myth, Narcissus is transformed into a flower as a consequence of his self-obsession; here, the artist gazes toward the daffodil with longing and contemplation. The daffodil becomes a symbol of renewal and hope. The piece explores the tension between self-examination and transformation, suggesting that reflection upon the self can also become a pathway toward healing, rebirth, and deeper connection to one’s origins.
